There is a long tradition of beautiful working trousers made in the south of France. The whole world knows about toile de Nîmes since the invention of blue jeans. But very few people know GARDIAN trousers in cotton moleskin.
The «Gardians» are French cowboys from Camargue, an extremely wild region in the south of France where black toros and horses run with abandon. «Gardians» are their herdsmen. I have been wearing these trousers for years now. Indestructible like a good pair of shoes. Gardian trousers never die because they are made by people who know what it takes to ride rough in the saddle all day.
A couple of months ago, I called one of the two companies which still produce these trousers.
Me: «Hi, I love your trousers, but I would like to make them more modern, change the cut, bring more colors. I’m sure that once everybody knows that these trousers convey to the ones who wear them the very feeling Marlon Brando gets when he wears his snake-jacket in The Fugitive Kind, they will all do everything they can to get one.»
The Laboureur owner: «You’re completely crazy. Let’s do it.»
