AURORA BAILEY

Aurora Bailey was born in Guanajuato, Mexico. The first chapter of her story begins when at age 15 she moves to New York, leaving the arid and mountainous landscapes of her native Guanajuato for a place where her interest for the creative universe channels her to earn a BFA in painting from the School of Art & Design at Purchase College and later on a Master’s of Contemporary Art from Sotheby’s Institute of Art.

During her studies, Aurora’s passion for the purity of form, function and jewelry as wearable art pushed her to pursue a new endeavor, thus creating Aurora Bailey Jewelry in 2013.

Her references come directly from her passion of contemporary art and the cultural richness of ther native Mexico. Her work investigates how art and architecture can be translated, appropriated and reinvented into small delicate wearable pieces while staying true to traditional jewelry-making metidos. Drawing from her formal training as an artist Aurora Bailey, emulatess small-scale sculptural work paying homage to artists, periods and architects such as Luis Barragán, Mathias Goeritz, Frank Stella, Agnes Martin, Josef and Anni Albers, as well as Modernist, Minimalist and Abstract movements.

Aurora’s pieces are characterized structurally as modern and minimal juxtaposed with subtle Mexican motifs and ingenious shape reductions.
