Style + Roll: Miami

Meet us in Miami: Art, Fashion and Music.

Inspiration:

A divine influence directly and immediately exerted upon the mind or soul. The divine quality of the writings or words of a person so influenced. Arousal of the mind, feelings, etc. To special or unusual activity or creativity.

We draw our inspiration from everything that surrounds us; however, art, fashion and music have a special place in our hearts. The combination of all things that fuel our fire brought us together to create The Feathered.

Fearless, intriguing, liberated - we live courageously, with passion and know no boundaries. Living in Miami we have the privilege to constantly be in a state of learning. The art scene in Miami is a tremendous source of life and energy for us.

A great source of this energy can be seen in the work of Wassily Kandinsky. His devotion to inner beauty, fervor of spirit, and spiritual desire was a central aspect of his art. “Colour is the keyboard, they eyes are they harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.”

The principle of art, the foundation of forms and the harmony of colors causes a vibration of the soul, an “inner resonance”. Miami’s colors; yellows, blues and reds can be felt radiating out from the city. Yellow has an eccentric movement and blue a concentric movement - combined they bring calm, which is green. The spice, the red is lively and agitated; it is forceful, a movement in itself.

These colors are not only used to describe art as life, these colors describe the vibrancy of the food revolution taking place here in Miami. With so many flavors and cultures flowing in and out of the city, the ability to explore your inner foodie is endless. Miami has you covered from the incredibly fresh Glaser Organic Market in The Grove to any number of the newest sushi restaurants making their names known in their new Miami outposts. Delicious food is right outside your doorstep and there is always a reason to enjoy a great meal with friends.

Mandolin Aegean Bistro

For an escape from the everyday grind of Miami, Mandolin Aegean Bistro carries you across the Atlantic to a quaint seaside Mediterranean village. Nestled beneath a canopy of trees, the outdoor courtyard invites diners to relax and unwind with a delicious selection of regional wines.

The simplicity and dedication of recreating traditional dishes of Greece and Turkey is apparent down to the olive oil and sea salt on the table. Freshness is key here, and the quality of the ingredients shine through in the delightful appetizers and salads. The whole fish grilled with olive oil, lemon and oregano is prepared to perfection! You cannot pass on the tantalizing baklava - it is out of this world (make sure to order two). http://www.mandolinmiami.com/

NAOE

By far, one of the most unique and extraordinary dining experiences in Miami, NAOE takes the art of sushi to the next level.  The alluring anticipation of getting a reservation is well worth the wait, and watching Chef Kevin Cory in his element exceeds all the hype.

From the moment Wendy greets you at the door, personalization is clearly an essential part of this 8 per capacity seating restaurant.  Chef Cory serves a spectacular chef’s choice menu with the freshest fish flown in from Japan.

The famous bento box is followed by delicately prepared courses of nigiri that can easily be mistaken for miniature pieces of art. These delectable delights are paired with sake from Chef Cory’s family brewery in Japan.

The frozen sake is a definite must! The way it melts away from the wooden spoon, can send any skeptic past the point of no return of foodie heaven. http://www.naoemiami.com/

Culture:

Gallery Diet

The Wynwood District is expanding by leaps and bounds lately, however, Gallery Diet has been rooted there since 2007. With over 30 solo and group exhibitions by new and emerging artists from around the world, Diet is not to be missed when doing the Wynwood Gallery crawl!

The current exhibition is centered around the ideas and questions provoked by a single artwork by Brion Gysin. The Dream Machine is the only known artwork that is fully activated as the viewer closes their eyes. Through various practices, artists have the freedom to explore both physical states and mental preconceptions between the object and how it is perceived.

There are two ways in which to view the Dream Machine: one, with eyes closed, and the other with eyes open. http://gallerydiet.com/

Art Live Fair

Miami has slowly, but surely, been proving itself to be a city to be reckoned with in the art world. Art Live is an interactive, performance based, contemporary “art happening” that engages the fairgoers in the creative process. Artists and exhibitors are encouraged through a variety of mediums to not just see art, but be it!

Artists have two ways in which they are able to express their creativity, one being in an indoor booth and the other is through an open call to create an art work or installation “live” during the fair. Both options seek to have the artists encourage attendees to participate in the spontaneous creation of art “live”.

The Miami art community is one that has always supported truly uplifting causes, and Art Live is no different. All proceeds from the fair will benefit the Lotus House Women’s Shelter, providing shelter, sanctuary and resources to empower homeless women and children to build safe and secure lives off the streets.

Art Live demonstrates the ways in which art has the ability to touch our creative source, explore our shared humanity and most importantly, reminds us we are all interconnected. It is an intimate way for Miami-based artists to engage in an energizing, creative environment while giving support to Lotus House. http://www.artlivefair.org  http://www.lotushouseshelter.org

Now there’ll be a day you’ll get there, baby, you’ll hear the music play, you’ll dance, baby
You’ll leave bad times way behind, nothing but good times on your mind
You can do it, roll with it, baby
Then you’ll see life will be so nice, it’s just a step up to paradise
You just roll with it, baby, you just roll with it, baby
You and me, just roll with it, baby, come on and just roll with it, baby
